79th Service Group
The 79th Service Group was activated at Esler Field, La., as the 333rd Air Base Group in
February, 1942. Redesignated, it embarked for England on 24 September 1942 as the
333rd Service Group and was later named the 79th Service Group. The group was
commanded by Major Lloyd R. Cogswell, June - December of 1943. Major Rudolph
Rhodes succeeded him in January 1944 through April. Captain William S Barnhart
succeeded Rhodes and served until October of 1944 when Rhodes took over and served
again until April 0f 1945
